Patch o’ Pumpkins

This is the final post from our week with my parents, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to post it! I hope it is worth the wait.

The density of pumpkin patches in Northwest Arkansas continues to impress me year after year.  I swear there are more every fall. So when we decided pumpkin picking would be a perfect Monday afternoon activity, I knew we’d have endless options.

Well. As it turns out, there ARE endless options. On the weekends. But if you want to go to a pumpkin patch on a Monday afternoon… You have exactly two options. Who knew?

Ironically, one of the options was McGarrah Farms — which was on our agenda once before, and didn’t quite work out. I guess you could say we have questionable luck with pumpkin patch outings…

McGarrah Farms it was! And I’ll go ahead and get out of the way of these adorable pictures and let you relive our pumpkin-picking, hay-bale-scaling, corn-maze-navigating, mule-train-riding, bean-bag-tossing, hay-wagon-riding afternoon.

Mule Train from Sarah Hood on Vimeo.

I will admit it was a bit bittersweet to see him ride off in the mule train all by his big boy self. In years past, I’ve been along for the (unbelievably bumpy) ride.

Yes! I was there, too! And here is proof! (Jeff had to work.)

The sun was a little bright…

And I’m positively giddy to inform you these family photos were taken by none other than local meteorologist Dan Skoff. I spotted him there with his family and I shamelessly asked him to take our photo. I should have asked him to get in the photo with us!

Your parents are awesome. I so enjoy all the pictures of them with Colt as he’s been growing up. Keep em coming.

My favorite picture is the one of Colt climbing up the hay bales – you can see just enough of his face to know he’s having a blast!! I may need to rethink my “the school field trip was enough” plan for pumpkin patches this year…
