I truly have some incredible Mamas in my life. Mamas that teach me lessons about love and sacrifice and patience and humor and courage and flexibility and strength.
And when one of those Mamas mentioned this event a few months ago, I knew I would be there with her.
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is a relatively new group. They are a quiet, unassuming charity providing the priceless, heartbreaking service they call remembrance photography for parents suffering the loss of a baby.
My friend Tara knows more than any Mama should about NILMDTS. She and her husband Evan lost their little boy, Aidan, last September at 21 weeks. And they’ve spent every ounce of energy and every minute since then looking for ways to share their story and spread awareness of infant loss.
So when she told me she’d be in town for this event – I couldn’t wait to see her.
There’s Team Aidan posing with the banner featuring all the babies being remembered by name during the 5K that morning in Bella Vista. Tara is in the center in yellow shorts. Aidan’s name is just over her right shoulder.
Tara is one tough cookie, I’ll tell ya. She is such a special example of being your kiddo’s biggest fan and loudest supporter. And I was honored to run A Race to Remember in memory of her little guy.
Not a PR, but I had a strong run in the crazy summer heat. The event was pretty big for its first year, and it was great to see so many families out there running and walking.
Tara and I went to school and church together for years in Cabot, and certainly never even considered the ways our lives would continue to be connected as we grew into adults and mothers. Thanks for sharing Aidan with me, Tara.
